Inspirational type videos and such don't always do much for me. I feel that in the internet world a lot of that stuff is overblown and just annoying. What can I say? I''m not always the touchy/feely sort. Especially when I feel a story, pictures, etc. is being done for reasons that are other than noble (reasons that scream 'look at me', 'I need attention', 'no, seriously, look at me!'). Sometimes though, I do find myself a bit inspired by something I've seen. Sometimes things feel genuine enough to make me wonder how this person's experience could affect me and my life.
This time around I'm thinking I'll take this woman's 100 day experience and convert it into something I can use for myself. Something a little different than the usual New Years resolution type fare.
Since I feel 100 days is doable for just about anything, and I'm curious as to how this type of approach could work for something I've been thinking about doing anyway, I'm going to attempt 100 days straight of a good skin care regimen.
This may sound silly. For me, skin care has always been an issue. My skin is not the typical commercial worthy terrible and yet it has been not a lot of fun for a very long time. Yes, at very nearly 40 I am still dealing with occasional acne breakouts and have had this problem since way before I was a teenager. I have tried so many things and most have been way too harsh and didn't really help. However, by chance and by listening to a good friend who works in the skin care field, I have realized that if I can just stick with a good cleansing and light moisturizing routine I can improve my facial outlook dramatically. And since I am turning 40 I would like to finally get this issue under control. I'm just not so good at sticking with the routine. As soon as I get things looking better, I kind of 'forget' to keep it up.
Isn't it funny how we forget to do things for ourselves?
It is hard for me to do the little things that mean taking care of me. This is one small thing that I feel could make a big difference for me and that I deserve to take the time to do for myself.
What about you? What would you like to attempt to do for 100 days? Would you be willing to take the time to do it? Does 100 days seem like a long time to you?
Just FYI....I had terrible scar causing acne after my strokes. I started using coconut oil as a moisturizer and soap that is all natural from Stone Street Soaps online, and there is a huge almost clear faced difference. I still have the scars, but they are fading.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...I forget breakfast....really? How on earth do I get so busy with the house and school that I forget to eat until I almost pass out from light headed ness?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice on the coconut oil. I have heard many good things about it and yet have never tried it.
DeleteI can't believe you were treated to skin problems along with everything else you had to go through! The universe can be a tough cookie.
That's a great idea. So many of us have little things like taking 5 minutes for skin care twice a day. We usually think of things like diet and exercise but I could see breaking down even our health regimen to smaller "bites" :-) like for 100 days drinking 8 glasses of water a day. It would surely become a habit just like skin care. I like this! Take care.
ReplyDeleteI've heard and read a lot about the idea of making small changes over the last year and it seems like a wonderful approach to so many things. It feels good to know that you are improving, even if in a small way.
DeleteI went back and watched the video. It is inspiring.
ReplyDeleteHow many days does it take for something to become a habit? Is the magic number 100? I don't know.
I do think that skin care is easy enough and worthwhile enough to do it. Coconut oil is amazing. If your current moisturizer isn't doing the job, consider it. You can also use it all over instead of lotion.
I can think of several things to try for 100 days. If/when I decide to go for it, I will let you know.
I'm pleasantly surprised that people were willing to take the time to check out what I had mentioned that inspired me. It really is a great video.
DeleteI think I've heard that it's supposed to take 6 months to make something a habit. I know I've managed to make habits quicker than that, but maybe not always good habits! 100 days does just seem like a good doable number.
I think I will have to try the coconut oil. Do you have a favorite brand?
It would be fun to see what people can do in 100 days, big or small.
I loved the video and it's inspiring to me. Glad it inspired something in you. The skin regimen for 100 days sounds awesome and I hope it works for you. I'm considering doing something similar but with something else, for myself. We'll see...
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to see the result of small changes for the better over time. I hope you are inspired to do something fun for yourself!
DeleteI love your 100 day skin care challenge. And you hit on the deeper issue: Why is it sometimes difficult to care for ourselves? I've been thinking of this quite a bit lately and I have a list of things I will do to take better care of me... It started recently by making a doctors appointment. Thank you for reminding me of my list!! And Jasmine, I sincerely appreciate your continued support.
