My husband and I took to calling our local paper, The Seattle Times, 'The Liberal Rag' a long time ago. We still get it delivered every Sunday morning because we feel it is important to be aware of what is going on in our local area, even if we do not agree with most of it.
This past Sunday's edition was a doozy, with a headline on the front page of the 'Northwest Sunday' section that read: "Slip Up May Slam Doors On Gun Law". However, If you read the article online here you will notice that they have toned down that original headline to: "Mistake In Gun Bill Could Defeat The Effort".
I guess a mistake is more palatable than a slip up. Phony Baloney, I say. I don't believe any of this stuff is happening without plenty of pre-planning on the part of our local government.
In fact, I would say that this Sunday's article concerning having the sheriff come by to take a look at law abiding citizens guns 'no more than once a year' (-never mind that the whole idea of limiting my 2nd amendment rights in any way shape or form doesn't work for me at all) is the perfect pairing to this story that came out just yesterday about how upset the locals are that the police have plans to use cameras in just about every public place around town.
And it has been said that people who fear an Orwellian future are nut jobs who just don't get it?!
I say, if this stuff doesn't scare you, even a little bit, then you and I must live on completely different planes of existence...
“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” – Golden Rule
“Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person. ” – Mother Teresa
There would be a real problem with law enforcement coming to our house for an inspection. I cannot imagine anyone tolerating this. My husband and son are both military. I have to qualify with my weapon every year for my job and have a lifetime license to carry a gun. We cannot even let this get started. It's like all government interventions - they just keep getting more and more intrusive. They do not determine our rights. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThere is irony in all things. The President who is trying to push Gun Control has sold more guns than ANYONE else. He truly is the best gun salesman ever. I read your articles, and the people who are trying to push the MOST LIBERAL PLACES into allowing people just to enter their homes to peruse their weapons are now beating the drum of the 2nd Amendment. In fact, the fellow who wrote the 1st article sounds like he is thinking that all those "crazy right wingers" aren't so crazy after all. All it takes is for the Liberals to push their Agenda Too Hard and Too Fast and Everyone Sits Up and Takes Notice. Way to Go, Libs. Everyone is watching now.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that this stuff was introduced at all scares the living heck out of me. 1984 here we come. Not to mention that the idiot law-makers who signed onto the gun bill in our state capital (which I don't agree with in any way since it aims to outlaw certain types of guns, but that's the least of the issues here) didn't even bother to READ the bill in all of it's entirety- a whole 8 pages! Ugh, it's enough to make me ill...
DeleteIt is scary, Jasmine. I should have been more clear. I always have SO MANY THOUGHTS rolling around in my head at any given time that it would take me forever to voice them all. I think that it is good that some people are waking up. I think that it's also good that the Libs got "caught." I think it's terrible that they even tried to get away with it. I think that they were probably lying about not knowing what was in an 8-page bill. And chances are good that they will try again. That is very scary. They will just be "better" next time.
DeleteAh Robin, sometimes we all have trouble getting our thoughts out in just the way we are thinking them. And then there's the leadership here in Washington state. I don't think they have trouble with this as much as they say. I think it's exactly as you pointed out. They're not sorry. Just sorry they got caught!
DeleteFirst, I love the new blog look! I'll take he snow, you can have the heat in Texas! :-)
ReplyDeleteSecond, it does scare the heck out of me! I did read the article and it's just what we have worried about for awhile now. Here we go...
Guess I will be looking for that long lost tropical island to buy and get away from all this craziness.
Hope you have a great weekend!
