What If Wednesday- Where In The World?

Hello again; it's Wednesday!
That means I'm here with a 'What If' for you.
I promised something a little more light-hearted this week.  My question for you today is this:

What if you could be anywhere else in the world or frankly the universe for that matter, than where you are right now?

This week I am inspired by a teenager that I know who is about to go on a mission trip.  When I heard about where she is going I exclaimed exuberantly how "that is my favorite place in the world!"  And I do vow to take my husband there one day to see for himself the 'other love of my life'.  (Once the drug wars get a little more under control that is.)

If I could be anywhere else, I would be in Cancun, Mexico.  That is the first place where I got an inkling of what I might be in for if I could break free of my family.  I went there for two weeks the summer before my senior year of college, thanks for the generosity and time share of a friends grandfather (I was a commuter student, working full time).  It turned out to be way too expensive to make regular calls home or vice versa.  That was such a blessing- to be set free in a place so beautiful and different from where I grew up.  I learned to snorkel, had adventures I could never have tried at home, and learned what relaxation actually was.  I have gemstones that match the color of the water and a tiny vial of perfume, also called 'Cancun', that smells exactly of a perfect mix of the white sandy beaches, nightclubs and lazy days in a hammock.  I have been to other parts of Mexico since then and they just do not compare.  There is something about Mexican culture stirred with the Caribbean that will always be magic to me.

Where is your magic place?  How did it come to be that for you?

  1. I am such a homebody. I like right where I am. I haven't traveled that much or maybe I would have a magic place. I would like to visit the Holy Land and have always thought I would like to see some of the castles in Europe. Money is always a determining factor when it comes to travel and I have never had much money to spare to do much traveling. Take care.

    1. My grandmother has been all over the world in her later life and she absolutely loved the Holy Land. She will talk about it endlessly.
I personally am totally willing to deprive myself of everyday goodies like Smartphones and other high tech stuff or eating out or seeing movies or gym memberships or concerts or really lots of other things that most people deem necessary, so I can travel. Everybody has their thing and mine is certainly travel.

  2. I gotta say, living in Alaska is pretty cool...but I would go back to my hometown in FL.

    1. Wow, I cannot believe you traded FL for Alaska. What a change!
I say that I live in Southeast Alaska and I am dying to get to warmer weather asap!

  3. The world is my favorite place. I have seen quite a bit of it and long to see more, but I am extremely content being exactly where I am right now.

    1. In all your travels, not one super special magical place? I find it hard to believe.
It's been a long time since I've been content in the place I live. I think if I had more exposure to the rest of the world when I was young, I never would have stayed here so long.

  4. I am pretty happy with where I am right now. There are a bunch of places that I would love to visit. I also went to Cancun for about a week when I was in college. So much fun. It is a beautiful place. I wouldn't mind going again.

I also really want to visit the British Isles the next time I go to Europe. I've now read enough Scotland, Ireland, and Wales that I think it would fascinating. And, of course, England. A lot of history all the way around. However, I know from my last European vacation that I wouldn't want to live there. It's gorgeous and amazing and history-rich... but it doesn't feel like home. I felt a bit like Dorothy in Oz the whole time I was there last time. There really is no place like home!

    1. That's probably my issue in a nutshell. The concept of home- as you know, my 'home' area has never been my favorite for many reasons and the more I travel the more I get that I am a sunshine girl. I don't belong in this rain forest, nor have I ever felt truly safe here- from many standpoints.
I love what Cancun did for me and I love that it's a reliably sunny place. I don't even mind the humidity!

  5. My magic place? Wherever my family is. Granted, I LOVE Park City, Utah and Yellowstone, and the beach... So yeah pretty much any of those--all tied to memories of living in or near those places.

    1. All of your favorites are places that I like to visit as well.
I really wish that I had lived in more different places, rather than just a ton of different houses in the same area. It would be cool to be able to associate different events and memories with different places. I've heard that sort of thing makes memories more distinct.

  6. Just wanted to let you know that I dedicated something to you on the Thursday post. Hope you like it:)

  7. Your HERE'S TO YOU dedication has more to do with the song than the TV show. Love Today by Mika. The thing is that I don't much care for the music video. Plus, I love that the clips from the show are kinda like your Right Now post (the inspiration for your dedication). The clips are mostly people trying new things, feeling happy, feeling sad, and loving today!!! "Everybody's gonna love today, love today, love today!"

  8. I'm always way behind. Thanks for the explanation in the last post. I was really confused. haha
I love where I am (in spite of the deep snow right now) and I don't want to travel at all. I like being close to family and I love my yard. What more can I ask for?

I did travel a bit when I was younger and I too, loved Mexico. I loved living in Morocco (also when I was much younger) but wouldn't want to now with all the trouble in those countries. I've always had a romance with Russia and I devoured the games last week. But no matter how uncomfortable things get in our country, I'll remain where I am for the rest of my life. Interesting question.
