A Funny From A Friend

Since I have maintained a 50 lb. weight loss for the last 3 and 1/2 years, I haven't spent a whole lot of time or energy looking for new clothes.  It's easy to justify clothing purchases when things don't fit, but it's a bit trickier when you stay the same size.  Now, I have finally gotten to a place where it is truly necessary to buy some new stuff.  Even though I have wanted to lose just a touch more (maybe 5-10 lbs.) I really can't wait any longer to get some new clothing.  I have literally worn through most of my favorite things at this point.  Seriously, this stuff is no longer fit for public consumption!

So I took an old shopping buddy along with me to help me find at least some pants that would work better than the 'holey' and threadbare ones that I currently own.

I ended up leaving the store with a killer swimsuit instead.  (Ok, so guys reading this will be wondering how the heck this could happen while shopping for pants, while the ladies know exactly how this happened.)  The woman at the checkout even mentioned that the suit was her favorite one ever.

So after hitting up a couple more stores and not finding any pants at all, I went home a little frustrated.  Even my old standby, the Goodwill, wasn't helping me out here.

Then I got a text from my shopping buddy that made me smile.  It read:  It's a sign.  A sign that YOU will be spending more time in the sun.  Pants?  Who needs pants?!  Not YOU!

  1. Visiting from Robin's blog. Here's to you spending more time in the sun.
I'd be in a state still worrying about those pants. :)

    1. For the moment I'm surviving by wearing capri pants or dresses. Something will give and I'll either end up with some new pants or I won't need them!

  2. Congratulations on the weight loss. I know I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I seem to just stay at the same weight which I guess is better than gaining. I don't like shopping for clothes, but I guess a lot of guys don't. Hope you find the pants of your dreams.

    1. Funny how the weight loss really took off after I dumped the thousands of pounds of my dysfunctional family right on their butts! I let them know I wasn't a doormat anymore and then the weight literally almost flew off.

  3. I understand buying a swimsuit when you've initially gone for pants. It'd be a shame not to get the perfect suit. :)

Waving hello today from Robin's (Daily Dose), and I'm you're latest follower.

  4. Well, I don't have to tell you that you are my "Y" for the A to Z. Several people beat me to the punch.

You are sooooo right. Women know exactly how this sort of thing happens. I don't know what it is about shopping, but if I REALLY REALLY NEED something (pants, shoes, dress, blouse) I can NEVER find what I am seeking. However, I do find tons of other stuff that I MUST have because it is just so cute. Darling. Fits me like a glove. Blah blah blah. So, I laughed long and hard at this post. I have never come away with swimsuit when I have been shopping for pants. But, I have bought all blouses, a dress, and even shoes. Yikes.

I think your friend might be right. Who needs pants anyway? You will probably get more use out of that swimsuit. Yay for the sun!!!

    1. Thank you, Robin. You have been so good with your A-Z and all the fabulous bloggers. I can't believe that I am one of them!
And yeah, the swim suit is too good. A swim suit that doesn't make you cringe is so rare and wonderful. I had to have it!

  5. I seem to have gained your lost weight. Sitting in a wheelchair does nothing for the ol' bum. I made the comment a couple months ago when I bought an all new wardrobe...people tend to be "pro pants" when you go out ;)

    1. Life is certainly not fair, with the curve balls it throws us. You amaze me with everything you've accomplished. I'm sure the weight will regulate as you conquer so many things along the way.

  6. Wonderful post. I agree, skip the pants. Get a bikini. You lost fifty pounds? Heck, I'd be strutting around in the teensiest bikini I could find. :-) I just hopped over from Robin's blog, and I'm glad I did. I am now your newest follower, and it's nice to meet you, Jasmine.

    1. While a teeny bikini is probably nowhere in my future, I should have mentioned that the new suit IS a two piece. It's so dang cute and flatters the right spots so I will be working it to its full potential!
      Thanks for following!

    1. It's a two piece, so that's close enough to a bikini for me!
Thanks for coming by and following!

  8. I had this happen recently, too. Couldn't find a thing to fit me, but tried on one and only one bathing suit and it fit perfectly...since my "go to" bathing suit is about 10 years old, this is a good thing.

    1. Yup, that's exactly how it happened. And you KNOW if I were looking for a swim suit I never would have been able to find one!

  10. You're headed for hot weather and swimming pools. You don't need pants...50 pounds loss is a lot. I've been trying to shed at least 5 and no dice. Mine is from my liver and thyroid and they never like to let go. I know what you mean aout new clothes. I do have some clothes for dress up that I never wear because i don't social dance anymore. I wear old old clothes when I work in the yard and have washed them into rags. Now what will I wear? .
